How to Style a Hoodie for a Casual Yet Polished Look

One of my favorite fall outfit formulas for casual yet polished look is to pair a hoodie with a jacket or vest. It goes with pretty much any of my favorite jeans and sneaker combos, for an upscale sporty vibe that’s perfect for my casual lifestyle.

Cooper Quilted Vest (S) // Nordstrom Wool & Cashmere Hoodie (XS) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) // Vince Oasis-W (8) // Madewell tote // Celine sunglasses

The hoodie can be a sweatshirt or a sweater; I typically have a few of each in my fall/winter wardrobe. I recently added this ribbed wool & cashmere sweater hoodie to my closet, and it’s such a luxe knit. It runs big; I sized down to the XS.

I love camel and black together, so I paired this camel sweater with the Cooper Quilted Vest from Evereve. I also like how the two textures complement one another, the small scale ribbed knit with the larger scale diamond-shaped quilted pattern in the jacket.

STYLE TIP: They key with the hoodie and jacket/vest combo is to pull the hood outside of the coat or vest so it’s visible.

You could wear bootcut jeans or flares with booties and have a more elevated look, but I decided to keep it casual and sporty with straight ankle jeans and these low profile suede lace-up sneakers in the Merlot. I’ve been wanting to add some non-white sneakers to my wardrobe, and this muted shade of red is going to work great with all of the neutrals I tend to wear.

I kept my accessories simple, with just a pair of silver hoops, and my new Celine sunglasses that I got at the Saks Fall Sale, which ends tonight! I love these. The round shape is different for me, and they’re very comfortable too.

I also like the look of a leather bomber jacket over a sweater hoodie, like this olive and black Harriet Hoodie, also from Evereve. I’ve shared this look before, but I noticed this sweater just got restocked!!

AllSaints Orten Bomber (8) (budget options here and here) // Harriet Hoodie (M) // AG Mari (29) (also at Nordstrom) (budget option) // VEJA Esplar (39) // YSL sunnies (option)

My AllSaints Orten Bomber was an #NSale purchase, so I got a really good price on it. I also found some budget options here and here.

In this case, I went with washed black denim to coordinate with the black trim on the sweater, and I wore my VEJA sneakers with the black accents.

For an even more casual look, I love this hooded sweatshirt with the faded stripe details. It pairs so nicely with light wash jeans and pretty much any sneaker.

Jordyn Stripe Hoodie (M) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) // Adidas Spezial (8) (also at Adidas) // Pistola Utility Jacket (S)

This hoodie is really soft and cozy inside, and while the small fit, I kept the medium for a more generous fit.

In keeping with the casual vibe of this outfit, I topped it off with an oversized utility jacket in this gorgeous shade of Spice.

I love the way it’s gathered a bit in the back and has a subtle shirttail hem. This jacket runs really big. I’m in the small, and I ordered the XS to try before I take the tags off and keep one of them. Also, it’s on sale!

I wore the same MOTHER Dazzlers as in the first outfit, but this time I added brown suede sneakers. I just got these Adidas Spezial sneakers after seeing them on another influencer I follow, and I love them. I’m not really sure what the difference is between these and the Sambas, but I just loved this brown suede, so I googled and found them on Farfetch.

These sneakers are very comfortable, and I like that they aren’t quite as ubiquitous as the Samba. If you’re not sure about Farfetch, I’ve ordered from them before, and they’re legit. The shipping is really quick, and I’ve never had issues with returns.

I love this ultra casual look for the mild fall we’re having here in Philadelphia. I hope the XS jacket comes soon so I can make a final decision and start wearing one of them!

I hope this post gives you some ideas for styling hoodies this fall!
