This summer has been an especially hot one, and the thought of applying my skincare and makeup just for it to slide right off as soon as I step outside has become daunting. Plus, since it’s the end of July, sun protection is an absolute must, and I’m often worried that I don’t have enough coverage to adequately protect my skin from UV damage. So, when I saw this TikTok of a full-face sunscreen makeup look on my FYP, I was eager to try it for myself.

In the video, the creator uses multiple makeup products with chemical or mineral sunscreen filters for enhanced SPF protection. This is a great idea for keeping your skin protected as the day goes on, as it’s much easier to apply a powder or a blush over your makeup than it is to reapply to the sunscreen that you used in your morning skincare routine. (That being said, a base layer of your go-to sunscreen is still recommended to ensure optimal protection, even when applying a full face of SPF makeup.)

Since trying the trend, it has become my daily makeup routine this summer for a naturally radiant—and heat-resistant—look. Keep reading to see my step-by-step process and what products I used.

Undefined Beauty R&R Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Sun Serum

Wearing full-coverage foundation in the sticky summer weather is absolutely out of the question for me, so an SPF skin tint or tinted sunscreen is the way to go. I love this formula from Undefined Beauty, which provides mineral SPF 50 coverage and wears on the skin beautifully. It’s definitely lightweight, but it provides the perfect amount of coverage (i.e. covers my partially faded hyperpigmentation) and leaves my complexion with a luminous glow.

Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection® Brush-On Shield SPF 50

Next, I use this brush-on sunscreen from Colorescience. It only comes in four shades, but they match a range of skin tones (I use Tan). The brush and the powder itself come in the same tube, making on-the-go reapplication a breeze. I love that it reduces shine without making my complexion look flat, and that it doesn’t feel heavy or dry on my skin. Plus, it comes recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, so you know it’s effective.

Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection® Color Balm SPF 50

Blush is a must for me year-round, and this color balm is perfect for a day in the sun. It has broad spectrum SPF 50 mineral protection and comes in seven richly-pigmented shades. It’s easy to apply straight from the stick, and it has a creamy consistency that you can easily blend in with your fingers or with a brush.

Vacation Super Spritz SPF 50 Face Mist

While this face mist is technically not a setting spray, it was formulated to be applied on top of makeup seamlessly. With its ultrafine mist, irresistible coconut fragrance, and subtle satin finish, this spray sunscreen has earned a permanent spot in my summer beauty routine.

Tatcha Kissu Lipstick

To avoid sunburned lips, opt for a lip sunscreen like this option from Tatcha, which applies and looks just like a hydrating matte lipstick. I used a couple swipes of the formula in the shade Midnight Blossom, and it offered sheer but easily buildable color that was long-lasting. Even though it has a matte finish, it feels comfortable on the lips and doesn’t cause any dryness.

Vacation Lip Oil SPF 30

If you love a glossy lip in the summer like I do, this Vacation lip oil will give you the perfect sheen. It has a thin consistency and a super lightweight texture, but it packs in hydration with hyaluronic acid and vitamin E. I love that it has chemical SPF 30 protection, and gives my lips a glassy—not goopy—finish that lasts for hours.

TL;DR: It’s safe to say that I’m officially obsessed with the SPF makeup trend. Though I definitely won’t be ditching my everyday face sunscreen, wearing makeup with sun protection is an easy way to make sure I’m always covered.
