It’s officially 2025, which means that the year of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is behind us. If you didn’t catch it in theaters, it’s streaming now. But you can also get the Lydia Deetz effect—in a dare-I-say -much-chicer and ready for the New Year way—by checking out Keke Palmer’s latest hairstyle.

On January 1, the actor shared an Instagram post capturing the best part of her New Year’s Eve festivities, by which I mean the moments before the party where you take photos and bask in how amazing you look. (Not that the party, hosted by Skylar Marshai and Temitope Ibisanmi and complete with a gorgeous grazing table, didn’t look amazing.)

Though her entire look was great, the hair stood out—mostly due to the aforementioned bangs. Wispy as can be, her tendril-forward Medusa fringe transitioned into some thicker face framing before melting into long, almost waist-length silky layers that moved and grooved as she danced the night away. As far as color went, the actor stuck with her natural black shade; there were no bright blue highlights or copper tones this time around.

Naturally, Palmer’s comments were full of fans complimenting her and comparing her appearance to other icons. While some said she reminded them of Aaliyah (we’re sure to see more tributes to the artist this year following Serayah’s ode at the 2024 Essence Fest), others noted a resemblance to Janet Jackson in her “The Pleasure Principle” music video. In the end, a mix of inspirations were at play and the look remained perfectly Palmer.

When it came to her makeup, the 31-year-old kept the influences alive with a heavily lined eye (Lydia and Aaliyah would both approve) and matte, nude-pink lip. In a couple of carousel photos, fans were also treated to a peek at her manicure. For the occasion, she chose a classic, glossy red on short, squoval-shaped nails.

"Last night. Dry January here I come," Palmer wrote in her post's caption. At least she went out with a bang.
